Ken Barber has been a successful business owner and real estate developer for the past 37 years.
Upon graduating from Babson College in 1975, Ken formed Clark and Barber Construction company with partner and experienced builder James Clark. The duo owned and managed residential income properties in and around the Metro-West Boston area.
In the same year, Ken purchased his family's retail business, Barber Bros Florist. Quickly, Ken expanded the business from 2 to 17 locations throughout New England. Barber Bros. became the largest florist in New England and one of the top ten in the United States. In the early 90's Ken rebranded the company and transitioned Barber's Gifts into a specialty store that is more successful than ever and a cornerstone of the community. Barber's Gift became the largest independently owned specialty store in New England. Recently, Ken retired from the retail business and is now focusing solely on Barber's Fine Home Builders.
Ken also continued to develop homes during these years. In 1982, after his partner retired, Ken built both single family homes and condominiums in Natick and Framingham. He also built a group of luxury homes along the Maine Coast. The homes built in both Cape Neddick and Ogunquit were featured in National Architecture magazines due to their designs, which mixed innovation with classic New England design.
In 2002, Ken formed Barbers Fine Homes. Ken's son, Mark Barber, joined the company shortly after. Mark, a builder for the past 15 years, has been instrumental in the company's success and headed up the Ice House Lane Development in Natick. In the past year, Ken and Mark have built high end luxury homes in Wellesley that have gained attention as well. Going into their 8th year, this family run business continues to develop properties in Wellesley, Sherborn, Wayland, Dover, Framingham and Natick.
The company has built a reputation as the finest home builder in Metro-West Boston. From consulting, planning, design and construction, Barbers Fine Homes continues to surpass the expectations of its clients and stand behind every home they build.
